Junior Laravel Developer – Pod 3: Platform, Partners & Infrastructure
About Carpool
Carpool is the logistics infrastructure powering the modern car economy. We combine a proprietary technology platform with a vetted carrier network of 13,000+ transporters to move 200,000+ vehicles annually for dealerships, auctions, OEMs, and fleets nationwide. Headquartered in Atlanta, Carpool is one of the fastest-growing companies in vehicle logistics – and we’re building the team to match.
The Role
Carpool is hiring a Junior Laravel Developer for Pod 3: Platform, Partners & Infrastructure, the team that builds the connective tissue of the business. You’ll work with senior engineers across authentication, partner integrations, communications, file and document management, workflow tooling, audit logging, feature flags, Microsoft 365 integration, AI services, and reporting infrastructure. This is an early-career role for someone with backend fundamentals, curiosity about how systems talk to each other, and the discipline to learn Laravel, Livewire, queues, AWS, and AI-assisted development through mentorship and code review.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain Pod 3 platform features across communication services, file and document management, workflow tooling, audit trails, employee management, and partner integrations.
- Add small, well-scoped enhancements to external TMS integrations, including new webhook events, field mapping changes, reconciliation fixes, and API error handling.
- Write Artisan commands and queued jobs for data syncs, scheduled tasks, background processing, retries, and resilient handoffs between internal and external systems.
- Extend Livewire-based admin and operator UIs with columns, filters, forms, inline actions, and simple workflow improvements.
- Write PHPUnit feature and unit tests for the code you ship, including tests that mock external partner APIs and cover failure paths.
- Use Cursor and Codex to scaffold features, jobs, tests, and migrations, then review generated code carefully before it goes into a pull request.
- Work with operations, customer success, IT, and engineering stakeholders to clarify small features before writing code.
- Read existing services, jobs, integrations, and pull requests so you can build a working mental model of the largest engineering surface area at Carpool.
What You Bring
- Solid backend fundamentals: HTTP, REST, JSON, status codes, request lifecycles, sessions, tokens, and basic authentication patterns.
- Some hands-on Laravel or modern web framework experience from coursework, internships, bootcamp work, personal projects, or a first engineering role. PHP is helpful, but Django, Rails, .NET, or Node experience can transfer.
- SQL fundamentals, including SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY, basic aggregation, and a working understanding of relational databases.
- Curiosity about integrations: REST APIs, webhooks, JSON payloads, API keys, OAuth, retries, idempotency, and how one system safely talks to another.
- Comfort using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Codex, Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude, plus the patience to verify generated code instead of trusting it blindly.
- Clear communication and learning habits: plain-English explanations, good questions when requirements are vague, useful PR descriptions, and willingness to be new at a stack or domain.
- Bonus points for PHP, Livewire, Alpine.js, Tailwind CSS, Git/GitHub, queues, scheduled jobs, AWS, automated tests, OAuth/SSO, role-based access control, logistics, transportation, supply chain, or B2B SaaS experience.
Compensation
Carpool offers a competitive compensation package: base salary, performance bonus, and comprehensive benefits. We’re a venture-backed company headquartered in Buckhead at Atlanta Tech Village (ATV), a startup community with mentors and advisors built in. Carpool Logistics is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Why Carpool
Pod 3 is the widest learning surface area in the company. You’ll see how a real production system fits together across integrations, authentication, communications, files, audit logs, reporting, AI services, and the operational tools people use every day.
- Ship production code early, with mentorship, code review, and scoped tickets that grow into larger features as you build confidence.
- Learn how integrations actually work: API design, webhooks, retries, signature verification, async processing, and failure handling in a live business system.
- Grow with a modern Laravel stack: PHP 8.2, Laravel 12, Livewire 3, Blade, Tailwind, Alpine, MySQL, AWS Vapor/S3/SNS/SQS, GitHub Actions, and Pint.
- Join an AI-forward engineering culture where Cursor and Codex are everyday tools, paired with tests, CI, pull requests, and human review.
- Work on meaningful transportation and logistics problems from Atlanta Tech Village, with direct exposure to operators, partners, customer success, IT, and senior engineers who like teaching.
